PVTIME – Group Surya, a solar PV company headquartered in the Indian state of Orissa, recently announced plans to build a 1.2GW per annum solar cell and module manufacturing plant in the Sasaram district of Bihar, using the current mainstream TOPCon solar technology.
The project, with a planned investment of INR10 billion (approximately US$116.42 million), will be initiated through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Government of Bihar. According to the plan, the Sasaram plant will be commissioned in phases and the solar cells and modules produced there will be supplied to the Indian market as well as exported globally.
Surya International, a subsidiary of Group Surya, also recently announced an investment of INR 800 million (approximately US$ 9.8 million) in a 500 MW solar module manufacturing plant in Orissa. The company also plans to expand its existing module manufacturing capacity from 100MW to 500MW.
