10.5GW! Brookfield and Microsoft Ink for Large Renewable Power Deal Globally

PVTIME – Brookfield Asset Management, together with Brookfield Renewable, recently signed a global renewable energy framework agreement with Microsoft to jointly meet the technology giant’s goal of purchasing 100% of its carbon-free electricity by 2030.

Brookfield will provide more than 10.5GW of renewable energy capacity in the US and Europe between 2026 and 2030, the largest corporate clean energy purchase agreement ever, equivalent to around 10 nuclear power plants. The new partnership will cover wind and solar power generation, as well as new or emerging carbon-free power generation technologies. And this clean power is expected to meet Microsoft’s growing demand for cloud services at home and at work.

As the global trend towards digitalisation and the adoption of AI continues to drive growth in demand for electricity, Brookfield is delighted to be working with Microsoft to support their customer demand by building over 10.5GW of renewable energy capacity. This first-of-its-kind agreement, which is nearly eight times larger than the largest single corporate PPA ever signed, is a testament to Brookfield’s ability to reliably deliver clean energy solutions at scale to our corporate partners and accelerate the energy transition.

Microsoft is committed to using its influence and purchasing power to create a lasting positive impact for all electricity consumers. This collaboration with Brookfield is driving the innovative development of more diverse energy grids around the world and helping Microsoft achieve its goal of purchasing 100% of its electricity from carbon-free sources by 2030.
