PVTIME – Recently, a gigawatt-scale solar wafer and cell manufacturing base was launched in Ziyang City, Sichuan Province, China, with a total investment of 10 billion yuan (approximately US$1.382 billion).
This large-scale facility is being jointly launched by Suzhou Shijing Environmental Technology Co (SJEF, 301030.SZ), a company mainly engaged in the research, development, production and sale of process pollution prevention and control equipment and terminal pollution control equipment, and Jinko Solar Co, Ltd (Jinko Solar, 688223.SH), one of the world’s largest and most innovative solar module manufacturers.
The first phase of the project is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2024, gradually reaching a production capacity of 10GW of wafers and 10GW of solar cells. The second phase will then be launched depending on market conditions, with production capacity of a further 10GW of wafers and 10GW of solar cells.
In addition, a subsidiary of SJEF has signed a solar cell supply agreement with Jinko Solar and its subsidiaries until March 2024. SJEF will supply approximately 2.5 billion pieces of 182 or A-grade solar cells to Jinko Solar and its subsidiaries during the period from 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2025.
