10GW TOPCon Solar Cell Production Project on Hold!

PVTIME – On 6 January 2024, EGing Photovoltaic Technology Co., Ltd. (EGing, 600537.SH), a high-tech enterprise that specialises in the development, manufacture, and marketing of solar photovoltaic products, announced that one of its TOPCon solar cell manufacturing bases in Chuzhou City, Anhui Province of China, is currently on hold due to the rapid changes in the PV market.

The plant’s construction, which was mainly engaged in the production of n-type high-efficiency solar cells with a capacity of 10GW per year, has been completed. The equipment for the first 5GW phase is fully operational, while the equipment for the second 5GW phase is currently operating at 1GW capacity.

However progress is lagging behind due to the need to upgrade the equipment to produce different sizes of solar cells to meet future demand in the PV market. The facility was designed to produce solar cells in the size of 182mm*182mm. Yet EGing’s investigation suggests that other sizes such as 182mm*18xmm-210mm and 210mm*210mm may be preferred in the future solar power industry. As a result, EGing cancelled shipments from equipment manufacturers to save on equipment modification costs.

Once the update is completed, the project will continue to produce large-sized solar cells with high efficiency.
