PVTIME – AMEA Power, a leading renewable energy company, has recently entered into an agreement to develop the largest solar power plant in Africa.

The new plant, with an installed capacity of 1GW and 600MWh energy storage systems, will be located in the Benban area, Aswan Governorate, which is the largest PV plant in Africa.
Meanwhile, AMEA Power is expanding its existing 500MW Abydos solar PV power plant, currently under construction, to include an additional 300MWh energy storage system in Kom Ombo, Aswan Governorate. This will be the first utility-scale energy storage project in Egypt.
Upon completion, these two projects will generate clean energy to supply over 769,800 homes, offsetting more than 2,347,000 tons of carbon emissions per year. In addition, the project will create up to 2,500 jobs during the construction and operational phases.
The combined investment of US$800 million will facilitate Egypt’s transition to clean energy and ensure a sustainable future with a reliable renewable energy supply.
AMEA Power has secured three renewable energy projects in Egypt. The first is the 500MW pluses 300MWh Abydos solar PV project, which is scheduled for commissioning in October 2024. The second is an additional 1,000MW Solar PV project, which will include 600MWh BESS. Furthermore, construction is underway on the 500MW Amunet wind project, which is scheduled for completion in Q3 2025.
