PVTIME – In an exciting development for the solar energy industry, international solar panel manufacturer Solx has announced significant progress in its Puerto Rico-based expansion plans.

Back in August 2023, Solx first revealed its ambitious intention to build a 6GW solar panel manufacturing facility in Puerto Rico. Now, the company is taking a major step forward with the announcement of a 1GW solar panel manufacturing facility to be built at the former HP Industrial Park in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
The total investment for this 1GW project is expected to be $64 million. To date, $25 million has been invested in the first phase of construction, which has already begun. Solx is proud to be 100% locally owned and operated with no foreign ownership. During the construction phase, the project is expected to create over 200 local jobs. It’s also expected to create more than 600 jobs in logistics, supply chain and related industries.
The facility is expected to be completed and commercially operational by August 2025. Once operational, it will be equipped with state-of-the-art semi-automated panel assembly production lines, enabling an annual production capacity of 1GW. In a recent strategic move, Solx entered into a cooperation agreement with Origami Solar in March 2025. Under this agreement, Origami Solar will supply steel frames for Solx’s panels manufactured in Puerto Rico, frames that are well suited for large size G12 panels.
As Solx moves forward with this project, it is not only supporting the local economy, but also contributing significantly to the growth of the renewable energy sector in Puerto Rico and beyond.
