1GW! UtmoLight Operates Perovskite Module Factory in China

PVTIME – The world’s first GW-level production base for perovskite solar products has started operation in China. The project was initiated by Wuxi UtmoLight Technology Co. (UtmoLight), a China-based leading technology developer in the industrialisation of perovskite photoelectric products.

The project, which includes a capacity of 1GW of perovskite products, an R&D centre and a headquarters building, was launched in Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, China, with a total investment of 3 billion yuan. Scheduled for completion in 2024 and full production in 2027, it will create around 1,200 jobs, of which 200 will be at master’s level or above. The annual production value is estimated at 2.5 billion yuan and the annual tax payment at 300 million yuan.

On 5 November 2024, the first perovskite module with a size of 2.8 square metres and a power of 450W as well as a full area efficiency of 16.1% rolled off the new production line. Mass production will be improved to deliver large-scale perovskite solar modules with a conversion efficiency of 20% in 2025. The project is expected to produce approximately 1.8 million pieces of perovskite modules per year at full production.

UtmoLight is invested by Great Wall Holdings and has been engaged in the commercialisation of perovskite photovoltaics, optoelectronics and materials since April 2020. With innovation as its driving force, UtmoLight takes industrialisation as its engine and strives to transform energy and build a green ecology.
