PVTIME – China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of the largest power supplier China Datang, has signed a cooperation agreement with ZESCO Limited, a Zambian national power utility owned by the Government of the Republic of Zambia.
The two sides agreed to cooperate in energy technology innovation and the deployment of 1GW of solar power plants to help Zambia increase its energy resources.
The two sides had in-depth and detailed communication on technical, commercial, legal, financial, tax and other professional issues, and agreed to set up joint working groups for each profession. China Datang attaches great importance to the cooperation with Zambia’s state-owned ZESCO and hopes that the two sides will make joint efforts to speed up the implementation of specific issues and contribute to the implementation of the project with high standards as soon as possible. ZESCO Managing Director Victor Mapani said the company was ready to provide upfront financing and invest in power generation.
The planned capacity is expected to generate up to 220 MW of clean power, assisting Zambia in boosting its energy resources. Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema is confident that these efforts will propel Zambia to achieve her target of generating 10,000 MW of electricity.
