2.1GW! PV2 World’s Largest Solar Plant Completed in El Dafra by Sinomach

PVTIME – The El Dafra PV2 solar power plant, currently the world’s largest solar power facility with a total installed capacity of 2.1GW, has been fully completed by China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach). Sinomach is a major China-owned enterprise with approximately 70 research and design institutes, engaged in equipment manufacturing.

This solar power plant located in Abu Dhabi utilizes cutting-edge photovoltaic technology, delivering impressive power plant performance and power generation efficiency. It comprises of over 4 million solar modules, 300,000 piles, 30,000 sets of trackers, in excess of 2,000 panel cleaning robots, 8,000 string inverters, 180 box transformers, and over 15,000 kilometers of cables. The plant is recognized as a world leader in the industry.

This large facility, contracted by China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), a subsidiary of Sinomach under the EPC, aims to foster the sustainable growth of the country’s renewable energy. It has produced over 3.6 billion kWh of renewable electricity for up to 160,000 households throughout the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since part of its connection to the grid in November 2022. The whole plant is designed to provide electricity to approximately 200,000 households, resulting in a decrease of 2.4 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually and a boost in the proportion of renewable energy in the UAE’s overall energy combination to over 13%.
