2.5GW! Jakson Group to Build TOPCon Cell Factory in India

PVTIME – Indian energy giant Jakson Group recently announced plans to invest US$240 million to build and operate a solar cell factory in India to produce 2.5GW of TOPCon solar cells per year.

The new facility will be completed in two phases, with the first phase to be completed within 15 months and operational by December 2025. In addition, Jakson Group’s 1.2GW module factory will be expanded to 2GW per year within 6 months.

These expansion plans are expected to secure Jakson Group’s supply chain for solar PV deployment, while the current solar cell production capacity in India is around 7GW per year. And it is an important step for the country to achieve ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’. India has been struggling with a solar supply shortage and has recently sought to stimulate the domestic industry through measures such as government incentives and import restrictions.
