2.8GW! Large Renewable Plant Kicked Off in Gansu Province of China

PVTIME – On 1 August 2024, China Huaneng commenced construction of the second phase of the Longdong region renewable plant in Gansu Province, China.

The second phase has an installed capacity of 2.7725GW, comprising 2.2329GW of wind power and 539.6MW of solar power. Upon completion, the facility will generate approximately 6.8TWh of clean electricity annually, sufficient to meet the power needs of approximately 2.26 million households.

It forms part of China’s inaugural integrated power generation project, encompassing wind, coal, solar and energy storage, with ultra-high voltage delivery. The total investment is 19.866 billion yuan (approximately US$2.753 billion). The total installed capacity is 14.5GW, comprising 4GW of coal power, 6.5GW of wind power, 4GW of photovoltaic solar energy, and 1GWh (2h) of energy storage. Currently, 1GW of the project is operational, with a further 5GW scheduled for completion by the end of 2024. The entire project is on track for completion by January 2025.
