PVTIME – NPGCL (Northern Power Generation Company Limited), a wholly owned power generation subsidiary of the Government of Pakistan, has recently signed an agreement with Chinese solar solutions provider Ningbo Green Light Pvt Ltd (Green Light) for the construction of a solar power project in Pakistan.
Under the agreement, the two parties will convert a thermal power plant in Muzaffargarh into a solar power plant with an installed capacity of 300MW. Using the latest technology, solar energy will replace heavy fuel oil in the power plant, generating up to 400GWh of clean electricity per year and reducing costs from Rs 45 per KWh to Rs 14 per KWh. And it will save an estimated $44 million per year.
The new plant is expected to transform traditional energy into renewable energy and is seen as the beginning of a new era of low-cost, high-efficiency power generation for Pakistan.
