25.9%! Trina Solar Sets TOPCon Conversion Efficiency World Record

PVTIME – On 20 October 2024, Trina Solar, the world’s leading provider of integrated PV and smart energy solutions, achieved a world record conversion efficiency of 25.6% with its n-type TOPCon solar cells at its State Key Laboratory for PV Science & Technology.

This particular n-type i-TOPCon bifacial cell with a maximum efficiency of 25.9% features Trina Solar’s innovative large-area 210×182mm n-type phosphorus-doped silicon substrate, which integrates advanced quantum tunneling passivation technology, low recombination current density emitter technology, front- and backside optical trapping design and state-of-the-art metallisation. The new breakthrough, certified by the test laboratory of the Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hameln (ISFH) in Germany, is Trina Solar’s 27th world record conversion efficiency record for solar products.

We are pleased to announce the wonderful result achieved by our research team, it is not only setting the new world record for large-area bifacial industrial TOPCon cell, but also breaking the previous world record of n-type TOPCon cell with 25.8% efficiency set by Fraunhofer ISE in 2017. “Dr Yifeng Chen, vice president of Trina Solar and vice president of the State Key Laboratory of PV Science & Technology, said. “TOPCon is the dominating technology in PV, with very high maturity and good reliability and low cost. Our result indicates the opening of technology potential for TOPCon to grow with a bright future.”
