PVTIME – The Egyptian government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JA Solar, a leading manufacturer of high-performance photovoltaic products, and UAE-based Global South Utilities to establish two solar product factories in Egypt.
The new project includes a 2GW solar cell factory and a module manufacturing base with the same capacity. With an investment of $138 million and $75 million respectively, the solar cells and modules will primarily serve Egypt’s advanced renewable energy market with growing demand. Meanwhile, the new facilities are expected to strengthen local supply chains for materials such as glass and aluminium, as well as contribute to economic growth and job creation.
As part of the MoU, Global South Utilities will assist JA Solar in conducting feasibility studies and securing government incentives, in line with Egypt’s Sustainable Energy Strategy 2035, which aims to increase energy efficiency, expand the use of renewable energy and strengthen energy security.
