PVTIME – DAHAI Solar, a Chinese solar module manufacturer with a maximum capacity of 5GW of solar modules and 10GW of wafers, as well as a solution provider of charging stations and inverters, has recently established a production base in Calarasi, southern Romania.
The new facility, with an estimated total investment of EUR 10 million, will be operational in August-September 2024 and will produce 2GW of solar modules per year, becoming the first large-scale solar module factory in Romania and creating around 150 jobs for people from Romania and Eastern European countries.
Romania was listed for the first time as one of the top 10 growth markets in Europe, alongside Germany, Spain and the Netherlands, in an EU PV market report recently published by the European Solar Industry Association. The country is now the 118th member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and aims to reach a cumulative installed capacity of 2.9GW of photovoltaic systems by the end of 2023. In addition, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis pledged at COP28 in Dubai in December 2023 to increase the country’s installed PV capacity to more than 8GW by 2030.
