PVTIME – A number of major renewable material and products manufacturing bases have recently been initiated in the Xinjiang region of China.
The projects include an industrial silicon production facility with a capacity of 300,000 MT per year, a polysilicon production project (100,000 MT per year), and a Bbox-variable inverter production project (2,000 sets per year), all of which will be launched by Daqo. Qn Solar plans to launch a 6GW solar cell production project, while Tianshan Aluminum Group Co., Ltd. has announced an electrolytic aluminium upgrading project (1.4 million MT per year). These projects, along with others, have a total investment of 34.37 billion yuan (approximately 4.73 billion dollars).
In particular, Daqo’s project was disclosed on 13 December 2023, with the announcement that a silicon material production base will be invested in. The new facility will be completed in two phases. The first phase will see the achievement of an annual production capacity of 50,000MT of polysilicon, 150,000 industrial silicon and 1,200,000 round silicon cores, with an investment of 7.5 billion yuan (approximately 1.03 billion dollars). A further 7.5 billion yuan will be invested in the second phase, with the objective of generating 50,000MT of polysilicon, 150,000MT of industrial silicon and 1 million round silicon cores per year.
