PVTIME – As one of the twelve large-scale solar and wind power plants proposed by China to meet its dual-carbon targets, new solar and wind power plants initiated by Jinneng Holding, a leading coal mining company, have been announced to be launched in China’s Shanxi Province.
The total installed capacity of the new projects is estimated at 6GW and energy storage at 3.4GWh, with an investment of 55 billion yuan (US$7.68 billion), and will be located in six different districts in Datong City, Shanxi Province. The entire project is expected to be operational by the end of 2025, generating 27 billion kWh of clean electricity per year.
This is a key project for the energy transition in Shanxi Province, which has been a major coal supplier in China for decades. In addition, the local government plans to promote renewable energy and accelerate the development of wind, solar and renewable energy storage to become one of the major clean energy production bases in northern China.
