PVTIME – Brazil’s National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) recently reported that the country’s installed photovoltaic capacity has surpassed 55GW, nearly 25% of its total power generation capacity of 241GW. Of this, 17.7GW comes from centralised PV projects and 37.6GW from distributed solar systems.

The Brazilian Solar Energy Association (Absolar) forecasts a 25% increase in new solar capacity this year, adding 13.2GW. By the end of 2025, total capacity will reach 64.7 GW, with 21.7 GW from centralised projects and 43 GW from distributed ones.
Absolar also forecasts 39.4 billion reais ($6.9 billion) of solar investment in 2025. This investment reflects both government support and investor confidence in the market.
A study by Greener Consulting shows that Brazil’s photovoltaic module imports reached a record 22.3GWp in 2024, up 25% from 2023. With 77% of imports used in distributed PV projects, it’s driving growth in this sector.
On the financing side, Brazil’s BV Bank’s My Solar Financing platform saw a 12.4% increase in financing for self-generation solar power projects between 2023 and 2024. In 2024, it approved 45,000 applications, 83% of which were for residential PV installations, boosting the solar industry.
