5GW! JA Solar Launches Solar Module Project in Inner Mongolia, China

PVTIME – JA Solar, a leading manufacturer of high-performance photovoltaic products, recently started the construction of a 5GW solar module project in Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia, China.

This project has been jointly invested by JA Solar and Inner Mongolia Nur Energy Development Co., Ltd. with an estimated total investment of 1.4 billion yuan (approximately US$192.36 million). The two sides will establish a company to manage the investment and construction. Once completed, the project is expected to generate an annual output value of 5 billion yuan (approximately US$687 million) and create 700 jobs for local people.

The new project is an important part of the Bayannur region as it is the first solar module production project there and aims to promote the development of local renewable energy generation. The city of Bayannur is blessed with abundant sunlight and wind resources and has set an ambitious clean energy target. By the end of 2023, the city’s installed renewable energy capacity reached 9,633 MW and the annual grid-connected capacity reached 3,978 MW, an increase of 70%. In 2024, the city’s new energy capacity will exceed 10GW, with 6,838MW of new energy projects expected to be connected to the grid by the end of the year.
