$700 Million!Xinyi Glass to Build PV Glass Factory in Egypt

PVTIME – On 19 March, Xinyi Glass, a leading glass manufacturer in China’s solar energy industry, unveiled an exciting plan. The company has decided to invest $700 million in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) in Egypt to build a solar photovoltaic glass manufacturing plant.

The project, which will be carried out in two phases, is very promising. Once completed, it is expected to produce 1.5 million tonnes of solar photovoltaic glass and 1.1 million tonnes of high purity silica sand per year. High purity silica sand is an essential raw material for the production of solar glass, which plays a key role in the solar energy sector.

A significant portion of the factory’s output will be exported. This will not only strengthen Xinyi Glass’s presence in the global market, but also provide significant support to the regional and international solar energy markets.

The Egyptian government, led by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, has expressed enthusiastic support for the project. Mr Madbouly has emphasised the need for rapid implementation and has directed relevant ministries to provide the necessary infrastructure and utilities. This proactive approach is designed to speed up the construction of the factory and ensure it is up and running quickly.

This investment by Xinyi Glass is more than just a business expansion; it’s a strategic move that will contribute to Egypt’s economic growth and the development of the renewable energy sector in the region. It also signals Xinyi Glass’ commitment to playing a greater role in the global solar energy industry, leveraging the advantages of the Egyptian location to enhance its competitiveness and market reach.
