PVTIME – Recently, the US Department of the Interior announced new advances in onshore renewable energy in Nevada, including the 700MW Libra Solar Project.

The Libra Solar Project is located on public land in Mineral Country, Nevada. Both the 700MW (AC) solar power plant and the 700MW/2.8GWh/24h energy storage system will be built on the lands to generate and store clean energy to power more than 212,000 homes. The new facility will be the largest PV and ES project in Nevada and one of the largest in the US. It is being developed by utility-scale solar and wind developer Arevia Power and is expected to be operational by the end of 2027, with an estimated value of more than $2.3 billion.
In addition, the 300MW Bonanza Solar Project with energy storage is proposed to be built on public land in Clark and Nye counties near Las Vegas.
It also includes the Greenlink West Transmission Project, a system of new transmission lines and facilities across federal, state, tribal and private lands from North Las Vegas to Reno through Clark, Esmeralda, Lyon, Mineral, Nye, Storey and Washoe counties. It is designed to carry up to 4 GW of clean energy, enough to power at least 4.8 million homes. Meanwhile, another transmission project called Greenlink North is being proposed. The project is expected to carry up to 4 GW of clean energy along a 210-mile-long, 3,500-foot-wide transmission corridor that begins near Ely in White Pine County, crosses public lands through Eureka, Lander and Churchill counties, and ends near Yerington in Lyon County.
