PVTIME – On October 18, Guangdong Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. and the Gangcha County Government have signed a Framework Agreement for a 1.2GW photovoltaic power station project.

Gangcha County is located on the north periphery of Qinghai Lake in Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai Province of China. Gangcha County has unique advantages in photovoltaic resources. The annual sunshine hours exceed 3,000 hours, the average sunshine hours are more than 14 days from May to September.

In order to actively respond to China’s national deployment plans of the eastern and western parts of the country, and fulfill the goals of “Carbon Peaking” and “Carbon Neutrality”, the company and the Gangcha County People’s Government will “complement each other’s advantages and develop together” for mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.

According to the announcement, the planned investment total of the project the 1 .2GW PV power plant is estimated to be 600 million yuan. The plant is expected have an average annual power generation capacity of 1.8 trillion kWh, which can reduce carbon emissions by 1.8 million MT and save 60 MT of standard coals each year.

The specific construction scale and total planned investment of the solar, thermal energy saving energy project involved in the framework agreement are only preliminary estimates. The investment scale and investment amount still need to be determined based on subsequent feasibility studies and further investigations and evaluations. The projects outlined in the agreement are planned over multiple years in batches and phases. The source of the project funds is not yet clear and there are uncertainties.
