18 Billion Yuan! Canadian Solar’s Sub CSI Solar to Launch PI of PV Production Base in Inner Mongolia of China

PVTIME – On 16 July 2023, CSI Solar Co., Ltd.(688472.SH), a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIQ), announced its intention to invest in a full-chain photo voltaic manufacturing base in Hohhot City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China.

The investment and construction of PV new energy projects in Hohhot can enjoy the preferential policies of the local government. The first phase of the project will mainly focus on the 30GW monocrystalline silicon pull rod production project, 80GW crucible project, 10GW monocrystalline wafer project, 10GW solar cell project, 5GW solar module project and 5GW related products project, with an investment of 18 billion yuan. The monocrystalline silicon ingot production is scheduled to start construction in July 2023 and start operation in March 2024, and the others will start in September 2023 and finish in September 2024.

The second phase of the production base is designed to achieve an annual production capacity of 25GW of monocrystalline silicon pull rods, 5GW of monocrystalline wafers, 5GW of solar cells, 5GW of solar modules and 5GW of related products. Then the third phase is planned to achieve annual production capacity of 25GW of monocrystalline silicon ingot, 5GW of monocrystalline wafers, 5GW of solar cells, 120,000 tonnes of industrial silicon project, 100,000 tonnes of polysilicon project. The second and third phases will be negotiated separately, taking into account the implementation of the first phase of the project and the demand of the PV market.
