2GW! Tata Power Adds Solar Cell Production Capacity in India

PVTIME – TP Solar Ltd, one of India’s largest cell and module manufacturers and a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), India’s largest specialised EPC player, has recently started commercial production of a 2GW solar cell production line at its manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu.

The plant, which has a total planned capacity of 4.3GW of TOPCon and PERC products and is India’s largest solar cell and module plant, commenced operations in October 2023 and has produced 1,250MW of solar modules to date. It is anticipated that the remaining 2GW capacity will be brought online within the next 4-6 weeks, with peak production expected in the coming months.

In addition to the Tirunelveli plant, the company also operates a world-class manufacturing facility established in 1992 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This state-of-the-art facility has a production capacity of 682 MW of solar modules and 530 MW of solar cells. To date, it has supplied a total of 3.73 GW of solar modules and 2.26 GW of solar cells.
