28.6%! Qcells Sets PCE Word Record on Commercially Scalable Perovskite Silicon Tandem Solar Cell

PVTIME – Qcell, a leading global provider of complete clean energy solutions, has achieved a new world record power conversion efficiency of 28.6% for its M10 full-area perovskite-silicon tandem solar cell that can be scaled for mass production. The new breakthrough has been verified by the CalLab at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE).

The high efficiency was achieved on its perovskite silicon tandem cell using its proprietary Q.ANTUM technology of the bottom cell with perovskite technology of the top cell on a full area M10 cell using a standard industrial silicon wafer that can be interconnected into an industrial module. And it is easy to develop commercial production lines for mass production of this perovskite silicon tandem products.

Qcells’ innovative approach of integrating a perovskite top and silicon bottom solar cell to create a tandem cell enhances performance by optimising light capture through the top cell for high energy light and facilitating low energy light transmission and capture through the bottom cell.

In addition, it leads to enhanced power per area, reducing the number of modules required to achieve the same solar system power output. This breakthrough has the potential to further reduce the cost of solar energy and the land footprint needed for solar projects, making solar energy more affordable, accessible and sustainable.
