PVTIME – Italia Solare, the Italian solar PV association, recently announced that the Italian solar PV market grew by 30% year-on-year in 2024, with 6.79GW of new capacity installed. Meanwhile, the cumulative installed capacity of solar PV systems in Italy has reached 37.08GW, with nearly 1.9GW of new capacity installed in the fourth quarter of 2024.

The total number of PV systems currently online in Italy is 18,787,080, but this will fall by 25% to 283,914 new installations by 2024.

The biggest contributor to last year’s additions was utility-scale PV, which includes power projects with a capacity of 1 MW or more. It grew by 163% year-on-year, adding 3,045 GW by 2024. Most of these PV projects were connected to the grid in the second half of 2024.
