Chint to Establish TOPCon Solar Cell Factory in Turkey

PVTIME – In a significant development for the renewable energy landscape in Turkey, Dr Lu Chuan, Chairman and President of Chint, held a crucial meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara. The outcome of this meeting was an agreement that paves the way for Chint to invest in and build a solar cell factory in Turkey.

Under the terms of the agreement, Chint will build an advanced TOPCon cell production line. A significant 80% of the factory’s production capacity will be destined for export. Chint already has a presence in Turkey with a photovoltaic module factory. Building on its extensive global manufacturing experience, the new factory will create a comprehensive production chain integrating both cell and module manufacturing. The move is expected to significantly boost Turkey’s competitiveness in the renewable energy sector and stimulate the growth of related support industries.

The project is also promising in terms of talent development. It is expected to create a significant number of high-tech jobs in Turkey. Through strategic partnerships with local universities and research institutions, the initiative aims to develop a pool of new energy professionals. By harnessing local talent, it will drive the development and application of innovative solutions and facilitate the international dissemination of photovoltaic technology. This “technology + talent” investment approach not only ensures the long-term viability of the project, but also enables Chint to cultivate a global talent pool.

This factory initiative is an integral part of Turkey’s High – Tech Incentive Programme (HIT – 30). Launched by the Turkish government in July 2024, this programme has a clear and ambitious goal: to attract a total of $30 billion in international investment in key sectors such as electric vehicles, semiconductors, batteries and renewable energy. Just recently, BYD made waves by announcing a $1 billion investment in an electric vehicle factory in Turkey. Now, Chint is set to make its mark as the country’s only 100% foreign-owned solar cell manufacturer.

This collaboration between Chint and Turkey demonstrates the strong complementary strengths of both sides in the new energy sector. As the project progresses, Chint’s factory in Turkey is on track to become a new focal point for China-Turkey economic and trade cooperation, breathing new life into the bilateral relationship. Stay tuned for further updates as this exciting project unfolds.
