PVTIME – Xcel Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: XEL) has issued a Request for Proposals (RfP) seeking proposals to build about 500 MW of new large-scale solar facilities near its subsidiary Northern States Power Co.’s existing Sherburne County Plant (Sherco) in Becker, Minnesota.
The US electricity utility company says the addition of solar projects at the site is a part of Xcel Energy’s plan to wean its utilities from coal-fired power. At the same time, it is in line with Northern States Power Company’s (NSPM) proposal to ‘jump-start the economy’ as it would create jobs and accelerate clean energy transition in Minnesota, amid its plans to close coal fired generating capacity.
All proposals will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. Central Time on Feb. 2, 2021. All proposals must be transmitted electronically, via email, to the RFP Project Manager.
