Bahrain plans to build solar, wind power plant

Bahraini Minister of State for Electricity and Water Affairs Abdulhussain Mirza said his country is planning to build a solar and wind power plant in the next few months.

The remarks were made during the inauguration of an energy and water forum “Towards sustainable developments.”

Mirza said “the Electricity and Water Authority plans to build a five-megawatt power station of solar and wind energy in the coming months.”

He said Bahrain’s GDP doubled in just five years, increasing from nearly 13 billion U.S. dollars in to more than 26 billion dollars in 2011.

“There is no doubt that this exponential growth imposes enormous challenges, that require massive investments in infrastructure and energy to keep the growth going on,” he said.
