PVTIME – On 5 August 2024, Wuxi Huadong Heavy Machinery Co.,Ltd.(HDHM,002685.SZ), a well-known Chinese manufacturer specialising in port machinery, including many types of cranes, announced the cancellation of the construction of a solar cell production base with an annual capacity of 10GW of high-efficiency n-type cells. The new subsidiary set up for the construction and operation of the project was also cancelled.
This huge project was signed in July 2023 in Bozhou City, China, with a total investment of 6 billion yuan. Construction was scheduled to start in July 2023 and operation in December 2023. However, the dramatic fall in the price of solar cells had a negative impact on the investment, so that the estimated profit was much lower than expected. The project was therefore cancelled in order to reduce further losses.
