In November 2011, national energy efficiency solutions company Anesco undertook a major project for Mid Devon District Council, to install solar pv panels on over 1,000 homes.
The project was part of a green initiative launched by the council to help residents save money on their energy bills, while improving the energy efficiency of its housing stock and reducing CO2 emissions.
Samil Power SolarRiver grid-tied inverters, which are especially designed for residential solar PV systems, were used in the installation.
An average system size of 2.45kWp was installed on the properties, which included domestic residences, bungalows and apartment buildings, with the systems feeding into separate MPANs on sheltered accommodation.
Mid Devon District Council’s housing service also benefits under the scheme from an index-linked annual fee, paid by Anesco. This income is being used to install further energy saving measures in the housing stock.
Ray Stanley, Cabinet Member for Housing, commented: “Thanks to a huge effort made by the team at Anesco who managed the install, we have been able to continue in our long term ambitions to help reduce our emissions while helping tenants with spiralling energy bills.
“The scale of the project and the installations has been an amazing feat and we’re proud of our success, especially when many other local authorities ceased installing during a period of industry uncertainty.”
