First Commersial Perovskite PV Power Plant Connected to the Grid in China

PVTIME – China Three Gorges Renewables (Group) Co., Ltd. (Three Gorges, 600905.SH) has recently announced that a part of its commercial 2GW solar power plant situated in Inner Mongolia, China, that is utilizing perovskite modules, was connected to the grid on 29 November 2023.

This is the first GW level solar power plant in the world which is operational using perovskite modules. The connected section involves 11,200 perovskite modules with an installed capacity of 1MW.

This particular facility is situated in a desert area under a severe environment. Three Gorges plans to gather data and conduct further analysis for perovskite module application in various scenarios.

Furthermore, Three Gorges has issued a procurement statement for equipment necessary for the manufacture of perovskite-silicon tandem cells and modules. The order includes three sets of large-area high-precision slit coating equipment, one set of large-area laser scribing equipment, one set of large-area light source and cell IV testing system and one set of physical vapour deposition equipment for new photovoltaic materials. Delivery of the equipment must be made to Beijing and Tianjin within 40 weeks of the contract being signed.
