PVTIME – GCL System Integration has announced its plans of constructing a 60 GW module production base in Hefei, China.
According to GCL-SI, in order to seize the development opportunities along the way to grid parity, the company will meet the mainstream and large size PV module requirements with this centralized, specialized and intelligently automated mega production base spanning 2800 acres.
As the application large size silicon wafers continues to pick up steam, there is a relative shortage in module production capacity to meet the demand of the market. Keeping the future in mind, this 60GW project will mainly focus on the production of 210mm module products but will also be fully compatible with other existing smaller sized wafer products.
Construction of the production base will be completed in four phases starting in 2020. Phase one, requiring an estimated investment of 5 billion yuan, will achieve 15GW in annual capacity and generate 13 billion yuan per year in annual output. The second, third, and fourth phases of the project will be implemented according to market sales and capacity utilization. The investment total of the project is estimated to be 18 billion yuan, 12 of which in fixed assets. Upon completion, total annual output of the base will exceed 40 billion yuan.
The production base will also include supporting projects that will be manufacturing supporting components such as backsheets, junction boxes, glass, EVA, and aluminum frames.
