LDK Solar, a vertically integrated manufacturer of PV products, has regretfully announced the passing of Professor Rongqiang Cui, the director of the company’s laboratory at Shanghai Jiatong University. Professor Cui died at the age of 71.
Professor Cui joined LDK Solar in September 2005 in the aforementioned position. However, his research into solar energy began in 1971 and in 1997 he became the head of the Solar Research Institute of Shanghai Jiotong University. Prior to joining the Shanghai Jiotong University, Professor Cui was an assistant tutor, lecturer and professor in the physics department of Xian Jiaotong University, from 1964 to 1996.
LDK Solar’s laboratory at Shanghai Jiatong University will now be managed by Dr. Yuepeng Wan, the company’s chief technical officer, and his research team.
Xiaofeng Peng, chairman and CEO of LDK Solar, stated, “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Cui. He was a valued member of the LDK family and will be sorely missed by his colleagues.”
