LONGi vs JinkoSolar, Patent Battle Between PV Producers Extends

PVTIME – On 11 February 2025, PV giant LONGi filed a patent infringement lawsuit against JinkoSolar, one of the world’s largest and most innovative solar module manufacturers, in a court in Shandong Province, China, and the case is scheduled to be heard on 20 March 2025.

LONGi is demanding that JinkoSolar immediately cease manufacturing and selling the relevant products. The new lawsuit follows similar actions between JinkoSolar and LONGi in China, Japan, Australia and the US.

On 4 February 2025, Jinko’s subsidiaries Jinko Solar Australia Holdings Pty Ltd, Shanghai Jinko Green Energy Management Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang Jinko Green Energy Co., Ltd. filed the case in the Federal Court of Australia. JinkoSolar is suing LONGi to immediately stop infringing the relevant patents and to compensate for economic losses.

On 24 January 2025, JinkoSolar filed a patent infringement lawsuit against LONGi’s Japanese subsidiary in Tokyo, Japan.

On 21 January 2025, LONGi filed a counterclaim against JinkoSolar in the US, accusing JinkoSolar of infringing LONGi’s TOPCon patents.

In early January 2025, JinkoSolar filed a patent infringement lawsuit against LONGi in a court in Jiangxi Province, China.

JinkoSolar claims to have accumulated more than 2,800 patents, including a significant portfolio of 462 patents related to n-type TOPCon technology. It claims that this makes it one of the industry leaders in TOPCon patents.

LONGi commented that it has always placed a high priority on innovation and intellectual property protection, as it is one of the leading companies in the photovoltaic industry in terms of patent volume, with a comprehensive patent portfolio covering various technical fields.
