Meyer Burger to Deliver Solar Modules to Italy

PVTIME – Meyer Burger Technology AG, a leading manufacturer of premium solar modules and cells, recently announced that it has signed an initial agreement with IBC Solar, a German renewable energy company, to supply German-made modules to the Italian market. However, there is no information on volumes and prices.

Meyer Burger has announced that its solar modules have been officially recognised as eligible for Italy’s Transizione 5.0 programme and are the only solar modules on the market that fall under the programme’s highest funding category C, which is designed to incentivise European-made products. Solar modules, a category designed to incentivise products made in Europe. This allows customers to receive the highest tax credit, which can offset around two-thirds of the total project cost. The conditions for Category C are that the modules are manufactured in an EU Member State and use bifacial solar cells with an efficiency of at least 24%, which are also manufactured in EU countries.

The solar modules involved in Meyer Burger’s new contract with IBC Solar are manufactured in Freiberg, Saxony. Meyer Burger ceased production there in April. Module production will be centralised in Goodyear, Arizona, but the company will not manufacture solar cells in the US as originally planned, but will continue to do so in Thalheim.

Meyer Burger achieved the highest category in the new Italian renewable energy incentive programme. The company also negotiated supply contracts with other potential customers for the Italian market. The Freiberg plant continued to produce sufficient quantities of solar modules from stock.
