Tongwei Speed! Europe’s First N-Type 210mm Large-Format Module PV Project Successfully Lands in the Netherlands

PVTIME – On 4th of July 2024, the Zonnepark-Dorst, a ground-mounted PV Power plant, supplied by Tongwei, was completed in the Netherlands. This marks the first N-type 210mm large-format module project built in Europe, all powered by Tongwei TNC-G12 66 modules. The project, located in Dorst, Netherlands, has a total installed capacity of 13.62MW and was invested in by Groendus and implemented by Zonnestroom Nederland, part of the Elix Group.. With a foundation in technological innovation and intelligent manufacturing, coupled with the advantages of a vertically integrated industrial chain, Tongwei provided high-quality products and efficient services, closely collaborating with solar partners to ensure the project’s rapid completion.

Efficient Supply Ensuring Tongwei Speed

On 15th of January 2024, during the launch ceremony in Europe of Tongwei’s new TNC-G12R product, Memodo signed a cooperation agreement with Tongwei. By 20th of April 2024, the first TNC-G12 module rolled off the production line at Tongwei Solar’s Hefei base. Just four days later, Tongwei’s TNC-G12 modules were in full production and shipped to the Netherlands, constantly setting new Tongwei speed records. Tongwei provided comprehensive support and services for the project, responding promptly and feedbacking quickly, which received high recognition and appreciation from partners. On 4th of July 2024, the Zonnepark-Dorst solar farm in the Netherlands, supplied with TNC-G12 modules by Tongwei, was completed.

In just over a year since entering the module sector, Tongwei has continuously upgraded its technology and equipment, showcasing its strong production capabilities and stable delivery execution through the competitive mass production.

Marvin Bonaparte, Procurement Manager of Memodo B.V. located in the Netherlands, stated, “We are honored to cooperate with Tongwei and successfully complete Europe’s first G12 TOPCon module project. Tongwei TOPCon module’s outstanding performance and efficient supply capabilities gave us more confidence. The rapid progress of the project not only demonstrated Tongwei’s strength but also provided us with an excellent project case.”

Leading Products Creating Higher Value

The Zonnepark-Dorst solar farm in the Netherlands applies TNC-G12 modules, based on Tongwei self-developed large-area cells, which have a mass production efficiency reaching 26.26%. Thus the TNC-G12 66 has a maximum power output of 720W, an increase of 130W compared to TNC-M10 72 modules.

With the support of a complete PV industrial chain of high-purity silicon and high-efficiency cells under the intelligent manufacturing, combined with super multi-busbar design (SMBB), non-destructive slicing technology, and high-density encapsulation, the TNC-G12 series modules have comprehensively improved in power output, bifaciality, and temperature coefficient. With the same installed capacity, using Tongwei TNC-G12 66 modules can reduce BOS costs by 3% and LCOE by 1.8%. TNC-G12 has a 6.01% gain in packing capacity and can reduce logistics costs by up to 5.67% (VS. TPC-G12 66 version).

In the utility-scale and C&I scenarios, TNC-G12 66 modules have higher installed capacity and lower EPC costs. Thanks to the low voltage design adopted, more modules can be connected in a single string, and the power is nearly 30% higher than conventional module per string. For power stations with the same capacity, about 30% fewer strings are required, thereby reducing the costs of mounting systems, foundations, cables, and constructions, effectively improving land utilization and creating more value for customers.

Jelle Schenk, Director of Purchasing & Partnerships of Zonnestroom Nederland, stated, “Before choosing Tongwei TNC-G12 modules, we conducted in-depth market research and technical evaluations. Tongwei’s TNC-G12 modules can be quickly supplied to the market, and after testing and verification, they have shown exceptional performance in efficiency improvement and stability, which ultimately led to our choice.”

Green Energy Building a Low-Carbon Future

After the project is completed, it is expected to generate about 11.92 million k·Wh of electricity annually, meeting the annual electricity consumption needs of 7060 households and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 11,200 tons.

Erik Bijl, CEO of Memodo B.V. located in the Netherlands, said, “The completion of the project not only provides a large amount of clean energy for the local area but also plays an active role in energy security and environmental protection. It enriches the local power structure, reduces carbon emissions and air pollution, and helps promote the regional energy structure to become cleaner and more sustainable.”

Innovative Development Promoting Industry Progress

In terms of technological innovation and project advancement, Tongwei continues to accelerate and ensure high quality.

Tongwei started TOPCon cell R&D in 2020, pioneering the industry’s first large-size PECVD Poly pilot route, solving the problem of PE-poly mass production. More than half of the industry’s TOPCon capacity uses PECVD technology, with Tongwei continuously leading industry technological innovation. On 29th of May 2024, Tongwei’s self-developed TNC 210mm high-efficiency module reached a maximum output power of 743.2W and a module efficiency of 23.93% (TÜV Rheinland tested), setting another world power record.

To meet global demand for TNC-G12, Tongwei Solar’s Hefei base has upgraded 6 production lines, with a single-line production capacity of 3,400 pieces per day, ensuring stable product supply. During module production, Tongwei implements strict quality control, achieving 100% inspection through 4 inspection processes and using AI technology for full-process automatic inspection, realizing informatization and intelligence in process quality control to ensure product quality.

Lilian Li, Sales Director for EU of Tongwei Solar’s PV Business said, “We are very grateful for the trust and support of Memodo, Zonnestroom, and all partners. With everyone’s concerted efforts, we have quickly introduced TNC-G12 modules into the European market. As the first N-type 210mm large-format module project in Europe, the completion of the Dorst project not only proves Tongwei’s leading position in the PV industry but also lays a solid foundation for our future global market expansion.”

The completion of the Zonnepark-Dorst in the Netherlands not only brings clean energy supply to the local area but also plays a positive demonstration role in the global application and promotion of N-type 210mm large-format modules. Tongwei will continue to increase investment in R&D, promote innovation and application of PV technology, and provide more efficient, environmentally friendly clean energy solutions to global customers, helping to achieve a green transformation of the global energy structure.
